The Nelson Mandela Bay Council will hold its first-ever virtual meeting on Friday following a lengthy break due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The DA, however, has already vowed to boycott the meeting.
The party leader, Nqaba Bhanga says the DA wants an executive mayor to be elected.
Bhanga says the Municipality plans to table its draft budget and draft IDP.
He says the draft budget could be fatally flawed if done in the absence of an elected executive mayor and may be open to legal scrutiny by ratepayers and consumers.
The acting mayoral position has been held by the AIC’s lone councillor, Tshonono Buyeye after the UDM’s Mongameli Bobani was axed following a vote of no-confidence against him.
Meanwhile, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says it will take strict measures to prevent the spreading of covid-19 among councillors.
The Metro’s spokesperson, Mamela Ndamase says all councillors will be divided and seated at different venues across the city to observe social distancing.
Ndamase says strict screening tests will be conducted.
