Thursday's special council meeting at which the future of Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Mongameli Bobani, was expected to be debated, has been cancelled.
A directive from the Speaker, Buyelwa Mafaya, states that following advice from SAPS of a high-security risk, it will not be safe to hold the meeting and that it is cancelled until further notice.
Metro spokesperson, Mtubanzi Mniki says there are possibilities that the meeting could be disrupted by protesters.
Bobani's fate of being ousted appeared to be sealed, after a petition said to be bearing the signatures of 117 of the 120 city councillors, was presented to Speaker, last week.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, the EFF has announced it would no longer support the petition and would abstain from voting.
The United Front further announced their continued support to Bobani on Wednesday and said they would not endorse such a motion.
