Tributes are pouring in on social media following the passing of one of the most colourful and most respected athletes in Port Elizabeth - Treloar Childs.
Born in 1963, Treloar passed away on Tuesday night after a short illness. She was 56.
Treloar represented Eastern Province Athletics numerous times since 1977 in all three athletics disciplines.
She held the EPA senior ladies and 40 to 49-year-age group 10 km record and was also a five-time elite National Biathle winner, five-time national duathlon Champion and two-time Biathle world champion.
EPA President Selby Thabethe told AlgoaFM News that he had been shocked to hear of Treloar's passing. He described her as a wonderful unifier of people and that everyone knew her. He said she'd even inspired him to run faster.
On behalf of EP Athletics, Thabethe expressed his sincere condolences to Treloar's mom Isabella, as well as the other sporting codes and horse riding community which she had served with great enthusiasm and pride.
He said he'd be raising Treloar's passing at an upcoming Athletics South Africa Board Meeting to ensure that she receives the recognition she deserves and that she is always remembered.
