Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has announced measures to ensure that essential services continue during the 21-day national lockdown.
Acting mayor Thsonono Buyeye said until the national government says otherwise, water, electricity, sanitation and refuse removal services will continue.
He says this also includes the Metro Police, Fire and Emergency Services as well as Disaster Management and municipal support services.
Buyeye says the Municipality has also unblocked the electricity accounts of defaulters, but they will have to settle their debts when the crisis is over.
He says they’re also identifying quarantine sites while plans are at an advanced stage to ensure that homeless people are accommodated in compliance with the President’s decree.
