Police in Port Elizabeth arrested a 28-year-old man and recovered a .38 revolver which may be linked to a murder in Gelvandale.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says police responded to a shooting incident at a shopping centre in Cleary Park and on arrival found the body of a man lying in the parking lot.
The 39-year-old William Henry was shot in the head.
Naidu says a description of the suspects were given and community members were seen chasing a man on foot running towards Salt Lake.
Police followed and saw the suspect jumping over several fences and he was eventually apprehended in a schoolyard.
The suspect did not have a firearm on him but was taken in for questioning.
Colonel Naidu says they later spotted a man exiting a yard on Barend Street and searched him. He too had no weapon on him and was released.
Police, however, searched the yard and a revolved with the serial numbers filed off was found.
The firearm will be sent to ballistics for analysis and detectives will be probing a possible link to the murder and the arrested suspect.
