Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says Tuesday marks 25 days to the implementation of the Metro Police Force.
Acting Municipal Manager, Johan Mettler, says R4 million rand has been set aside for this, while an additional R224 million had already been budgeted for in the 2015/2016 financial year.
He says the Metro Police Steering Committee is hard at work in order to ensure that all the legislative requirements are met, which include a 24 hour service and civilian oversight.
Mettler says the first phase of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Police will kick-off on the 30th of this month.
He says the Metro remains steadfast in its resolve to deal with the ongoing fight against crime and gang related violence in communities.
