The way is now clear for the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to institute proceedings against the construction companies that built the 2010 NMB Stadium in Port Elizabeth, following the issuing of certificates by the Competition Tribunal.
The certificates confirm that companies associated with a host of projects had in fact contravened the Competition Act.
Deputy Mayor Chippa Ngcolomba confirmed last Friday that Nelson Mandela Bay was proceeding with civil action, adding that the matter was being handled by the SA Local Government Association SALGA.
SALGA has suggested that Nelson Mandela Bay could claim up to R590 million from the construction companies involved in building the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at a cost of R1.96 billion .
