The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has called on residents to continue using water sparingly and says as far as its concerned, day zero has already hit the City.
The Metro’s infrastructure head, Mongameli Bobani, made the dramatic announcement earlier today.
The former mayor of the Metro stated at a media briefing that water usage is currently higher than what the Metro’s dams and reservoirs can supply.
He also warned that if the situation continues then Nelson Mandela Bay’s main supply dams could run dry completely.
Parts of the city are already experiencing water outages with the Western suburbs, Northern Areas and Uitenhage mostly affected.
Certain parts of the city like Kabega, Greenbushes, Rowallan Park, Hunters Retreat, Westering and Linton Grange have been without water for almost 24-hours.
According to the latest figures released by the Municipality on Thursday, Nelson Mandela Bay’s four main supply dams are currently at 18.84%
Of total combined capacity.
