The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says beaches and all public amenities are closed from Sunday.
It says in a statement new directives are in effect in efforts to ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to ensure that the transmission of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, is contained.
Municipal Director for Disaster Management, Shane Brown says this to comply with national directives.
He says the guidelines by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma compels the municipality to close all beaches, braai areas, swimming pools and other public amenities from Sunday.
Brown says this is in addition to the closure of sporting facilities, libraries and museums already being enforced.
It is also critical that the following is adhered to:
1. The implementation of social distancing guidelines (no more than 100 people in close contact at church services and funerals),
2. No more than 50 people at premises where alcohol is consumed on and off-site.
3. All regulations published in Government Gazette 43107 dated 18 March 2020.
