The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality has again assured residents and visitors that the metro's tap water is safe for human consumption.
The Metro said in a statement released last night, that the acceptable tap water quality, had been scientifically confirmed.
Metro spokesperson Martie Nel said the only exception was the community of Tiryville in the north-western part of Uitenhage.
Ecoli was detected in the water reservoir earlier, and it has been closed.
Residents of Tiryville are now receiving their water from another reservoir, while the water in the Kamesh Reservoir is being treated with the addition of extra dosages of chlorine.
Nell says the water in all other areas of the Metro is safe.
