NMB to receive just under R72 million for flood relief

Nelson Mandela Bay is to receive just less than R72 million for flood relief.

The allocation was announced by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan this week, when he tabled his Medium Term Budget Policy Statement in parliament.

The allocation to Nelson Mandela Bay is part of R111.4 million that will be allocated to the Eastern Cape and channelled through the Department of Local Goverment and Traditional Affairs.

Metrominute reports that the funds for the repair and replacement of damaged municipal infrastructure will be allocated through a new Municipal Disaster Recovery Grant.

Gordhan also announced that the Eastern Cape would receive an additional R189.6 million for repairs to roads and bridges damaged by floods.

The funds have been allocated through the Provincial Roads Maintenance Grant bringing the total amount allocated to the Eastern Cape in terms of the grant for the 2013/14 financial year to just under R1.3 billion .
