The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says its five main supply dams are overflowing following heavy weekend rain.
Municipality spokesperson, Roland Williams, says this means that the Metro has a sufficient water supply for at least another year.
He says residents have also heeded calls to conserve water leading to a reduction in consumption levels in recent times.
However, Williams still emphasised the need to still use water sparingly.
"We also thank relevant municipal staff who, in spite of the impact of the heavy rains, maintained drinking water quality to all households and treated sewage effluent. It is through and because of such dedication and commitment to the people, that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality was the recipient of two Blue Drop Awards and one Green Drop Award over the past 12 months," he added.
Dam levels as at 11h00 on Monday, 16 July 2012, are:
* Loerie Dam = 102.23%
* Churchill Dam = 101.73%
* Kouga Dam = 107.18%
* Mpofu Dam = 103.82%
* Groendal Dam = 101.0%
