According to a report to the Metro's Public Accounts Committee, it would cost R3.6mto eradicate the bucket system in 23 000 households.
The report says that nationally, some 654 individual projects have been identified by the Presidential Infrastructure Coordination Commission (PICC) of which about 54 are water related.
The report says that in addition to the eradication of the bucket system, projects identified for Nelson Mandela Bay include R484 million for waste-water treatment and the environment; R480 million for roads and storm-water; R437 million for cycle paths and R440 million for economic development.
A further R1.5 million will be required for the rail link between Motherwell and the Coega Industrial Development Zone that is now classified as a priority project.
