Nelson Mandela Bay police have issued an advisory to residents living on smallholdings to be extra vigilant following a spate of home invasions this past week.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says on Saturday two families were targeted in Linton Grange and Theescombe respectively.

On Saturday morning a 38-year-old man and his domestic worker were held at gunpoint moments after he opened his gate for her to gain access to his property in Godetia drive.

Colonel Naidu says the homeowner went back to his room and as the domestic was about to lock the door two men ran into the yard and threatened her with a gun.

The suspects tied her hands with cable ties before going to the main bedroom where they tied up the homeowner's hands and feet.

They ransacked the house and stole two phones, two laptops, an Xbox, a TV set and cash.

Colonel Naidu says the suspects jumped into a getaway vehicle waiting for them outside.

She says the second incident happened on Saturday evening in Theescombe where brazen robbers surprised a family at their home shortly before 11 pm.

The 57-year-old complainant and her family were watching TV when she noticed a man wearing a balaclava standing at their glass door.

Colonel Naidu says as she was warning her husband a shot was fired, shattering the glass door and adjacent window.

The family was ordered to lie on the floor before they too were tied up and their house ransacked.

The men stole a .38 revolved, jewellery and electronic devices.

On Tuesday this week, a homeowner from Morningside and his mother were tied up in a home invasion before their home too was ransacked for valuables.

On the following day, Wednesday, another family was tied up in their home on a plot in Lakeside in Kragga Kamma Road.

Police are advising homeowners to make sure that they have the necessary security to protect them and to invest in burglar bars on doors and windows.

Colonel Naidu says installing a CCTV camera is especially crucial and those who do have them should ensure that they are in working condition.

Algoa FM News asked police if these robberies were connected but Naidu said it was too early to confirm any links as all the investigations are ongoing.

No arrests have been made.

Residents took to social media this expressing their concerns and fears over the spate of robberies in the area this week.
