NMB opposition parties propose motions of no confidence in Trollip and Lawack

Nelson Mandela Bay opposition parties are gunning for executive mayor Athol Trollip and Speaker, Jonathan Lawack.

Notices of motions of no confidence in the two were submitted to the Municipality last Thursday, and these will be debated at the next Council meeting.

The motion of no confidence in the mayor is being proposed by Patriotic Alliance councillor, Marlon Daniels.

Daniels broadly claims that Trollip had "disrespected and misled" the Municipality on matters related to a senior appointment that he said had resulted in a lawsuit.

The PA's notice of motion was supported by the UDM's Mongameli Bobani, who in turn is proposing his own motion of no confidence in Council Speaker, Jonathan Lawack.

Bobani broadly accuses Lawack of not being impartial when chairing Council meetings.

The UDM councillor was ousted in August as Deputy Mayor in a vote that carried despite some opposition party councillors walking out of the Council chamber in an apparent bid to block the vote.

The next Council meeting is scheduled to place on the 30th of November.
