A Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal employee has died after suffering an electric shock while working at a sub-station.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, identified the deceased as 57-year-old Fanie (Stephanus) Hulme.
She said he died in hospital of his injuries following the incident at a Municipal sub-station in Lorraine.
Meanwhile, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said it was saddened by Hulme’s tragic passing.
In a statement on Monday, the Municipality said he was responding to an outage that affected some areas of the City.
“The incident happened while working on-site at the Arras Road distribution substation.
He was replacing a fuse on a Low Voltage board when the switchgear exploded,” the statement said.
An inquest docket was opened and will be investigated by SAPS Walmer.
