NMB muncipal libraries and traffic department offices to re-open

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says a marathon meeting between a mayoral task team and unions has broken the impasse that led to strikes in several departments.

According to a statement late this afternoon, all striking workers will be back at their posts on Monday.

Municipality spokesperson, Kupido Barons, says all municipal libraries and all traffic department offices will be open again from Monday.

The report of the Mayoral Task Team will be tabled at a Special Council meeting next Thursday.

Bheza Ntshona, spokesperson for the Mayoral Task Team, said the negotiations were intricate and sensitive since the concerns raised cut across different directorates.

"We were locked in discussions since early this morning and ultimately we agreed on all the issues raised," he said.

The report of the Mayoral Task Team will be tabled at a Special Council meeting next Thursday (18 July).

Mr Ntshona said management will now work on a strategy to determine how to best deal with expired licenses and other issues that the community faced due to the strike action.

"We would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused as a result of the recent action by our employees but since we reached the agreement we are all on the same page and ready to provide great services to our residents," he added.
