NMB metro announces partnership with Pioneer Foods

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has announced a public private partnership with Pioneer Foods that will see the launch of the People Working For Their Environment project in the Metro.

This is the second such project launched by the company to show how training and development opportunities and small business creation can be facilitated through the improved management of the Metro's natural resources.

Its believed these management activities create jobs that in turn reduce risk from fire and floods and improves the safety of communities on open ground.

Nelson Mandela Bay spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki, says other partners in the project include WWF and the NCC Group.

He says Pioneer Foods has invested just over two million rand into the project which will be used to train identified community members in sustainable environmental initiatives in areas of Nelson Mandela Bay.

"These people will be amongst other things removing alien plants, preparing fire breaks in our small forest areas and working on controlling erosion and the kind of labour intensive kind of work, therefore we foresee alot of job creation" he said.
