NMB hospitals are not immune to loadshedding

Hospitals in Nelson Mandela Bay that do not offer life-support services will now be affected by loadshedding.

This was announced by the Metro on Wednesday as part of the changes that have been made regarding the implementation of loadshedding.

Previously, all hospitals were not part of the grid since 2008 but now the Metro says it has become more difficult to avoid not shedding any hospitals.

The Metro's electricity and energy acting system operations manager, Bernard Tlali says the document presented at the media briefing confirms that hospitals can also be shedded.

Technical services senior director, Bernard Lamour says the Metro will be engaging with hospitals to inform them about changes and also find out if they have back up plans in place such as generators.

He says Hospitals think they are excluded from loadshedding but they are not.

The Metro also announced that domestic groups will increase from 8 to 19 with additional suburbs added meaning that domestic groups will not be shed for longer than two hours at a time.

The new schedules and groups will be available on the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality website from Wednesday.
