The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has confirmed that an employee who was hospitalised following a brutal attack has died.
Metro spokesperson, Kupido Baron, said Parks Directorate employee, Charl Meyer (41), died over the weekend.
He was recently readmitted to hospital after being attacked several weeks ago while leaving work in St George's Park.
Twenty-year-old Michael Maartens has already appeared in court in connection with the attack on Meyer.
He was released on warning and is due back in court again on 24 May.
The Municipality said that its own security personnel investigated the case after the police reportedly closed the case a week after the incident.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm will be now be changed to one of murder.
