Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said it had “reviewed” its decision to close beaches for swimming after some lifeguards tested positive for Covid19.
In a statement on Sunday, the Municipality said that it had “cautiously decided to reopen the beaches for swimming”, however it advised residents who decided to swim, to do so with caution.
It also reiterated that no lifeguards would be on duty.
The decision to close the beaches on Saturday for swimming due to the lifeguards testing positive, sparked a massive public outcry on social media.
The Municipality also closed off access to the Pier at Hobie Beach.
“The City is exploring options to restore normality under the current circumstances,” the statement said.
