NMB dam levels continue to improve

The Kouga Dam is currently at 18.04% of capacity

The level of Nelson Mandela Bay's main supply dams continues to improve after some excellent falls in the catchment area in the Langkloof in August.

According to the latest figures released by the Municipality on Monday, total combined capacity has improved to 16.34%.

The Churchill has risen 2.5% in the past week and is currently 24.12% full.

At the end of June, when the Metro was days away from day Zero, the Churchill was at just over 8% of capacity.

The Impofu is still very low at 10.12% but the Metro has been able to implement phase one of its Barge extraction programme which has increased access to the Impofu's dead storage.

The Department of Water and Sanitation has also increased the allocation from the largest supply dam, the Kouga, for the new water year.

Currently at just over 18% of capacity, the Kouga is also the main source of water for citrus growers in the Gamtoos river valley, and for the Kouga Local municipality.

The Loerie Dam, a smaller holding dam just east of the Kouga, is currently at 58.06% while the Groendal Dam is at 20.13%.
