The level of Nelson Mandela Bay’s four main supply dams continues their steady decline, edging closer to 20% and with no rain of significance on the horizon for the next week.

According to figures released by the municipality on Tuesday morning, the dams are at an average combined capacity of just 21.73% - down from 22.02% when the last reading was taken five days ago.

The largest of the supply dams, the Kouga, is at a mere 11.64%, the Churchill at 67.7% and the Impofu at 16.45%.

No water is currently being extracted from the Impofu because its level is too low to allow extraction using conventional methods.

The Groendal Dam which serves the Uitenhage area is at 36.28%
