NMB concerned about Covid stats as Uitenhage numbers are growing and hospitals are filling up

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has noted with concern the rising numbers of COVID-19 infections in Uitenhage and KwaNobuhle.

While Motherwell has been leading as a hotspot for COVID-19 confirmed cases in the City, the latest statistics in NMBM show that Uitenhage and KwaNobuhle are fast catching up and together have recorded more confirmed cases than Motherwell.

As at 22 June Motherwell had 547 confirmed cases while Uitenhage and KwaNobuhle recorded 306 and 266 confirmed cases respectively.

Combined the two areas recorded 572 cases.

COVID-19 Disaster Management Forum chairperson Shane Brown warned in a statement that Uitenhage and KwaNobuhle are newly developed hotspots while cases have increased everywhere across the city.

Brown said Private Hospitals beds were currently full.

He added that the Provincial Hospitals of Livingston, Uitenhage and Dora Nginza do have some capacity but are also filling up.

Brown said the new VW field Hospital in Korsten which will open on the first of July will assist hugely with the rising numbers.

The Nelson Mandela Bay stadium field hospital is also filling up and now has more than 150 patients.
