Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said that its Service Delivery Call Centre has been temporarily closed after a staff members came into contact with a person who tested positive for the coronavirus.
As a result, City Hall, the Joint Operations Centre at the PE Fire Station and a municipal centre in Linton Grange have been closed for now.
Municipality spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki, said all 42 staff members were sent for screening and testing and sent home for isolation.
“The isolation of all staff members has left the Metro with no one to return to work as people who have done tests cannot go back at work until their results come back,” he said.
However, Mniki said arrangements were being made for temporary staff to resume work in order to assist residents before the end of this week.
He said the buildings were also being decontaminated.
In another case; the Metro has temporarily closed the Kragga Kamma drop-site after one of the Waste Management sub-directorate employees tested positive for Covid-19.
The site is closed to allow all necessary measures to be put in place to ensure the safety of staff members and residents.
Residents are therefore requested to make use of Hunters Drop-off site or other closest Disposal Sites, for the disposal of all types of waste.
Mniki said residents were being encouraged to send their queries to waterleaks@mandelametro.gov.za or report their queries directly to ward councillors who will then escalate them to the relevant offices for action.
