The Buffalo City Metro has had to close one of its buildings after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
Municipal spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya said as a precautionary measure, the Trust Centre Building in the East London CBD was closed on Monday for deep cleaning and decontamination.
He said Buffalo City Metro has also set up a process for the staff to be screened and this will take place at a separate venue on Tuesday.
"We are calling on anyone entering our buildings to ensure that at all material times they adhere to the law that requires people to wear masks and to sanitise their hands," he said.
"We have put in scanners to ensure that people's temperature are taken whenever they enter our buildings and we take down their details in case there is a need for screening and testing," Ngwenya added.
