The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber has joined the growing chorus of outrage at Eskom's inability to keep the lights on, as President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged that on-going power cuts are a huge national problem.
The parastatal has been leaving businesses and residents powerless at frequent intervals since last week, and Stage 4 load shedding is currently being implemented for a third straight day.
NMB Business Chamber CEO Nomkhita Mona says the fact that Eskom deems it necessary to resort to such drastic power cuts, indicates that the country’s energy supply has reached a state of emergency.
Mona says in a hard-hitting statement that by Eskom's hand, business and residents have been subjected to a way of life that is unsustainable and unacceptable.
As the Business Chamber, she is calling on Eskom to make known the reasons behind the heavy load shedding, as well as their plans for resolving the situation as soon as possible.
She says the silence that has come from the Union Buildings, the Department of Public Enterprises and Eskom itself, has been deafening.
