Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says a planned shutdown of the recently repaired Churchill pipeline is scheduled for this weekend.
The municipality said in a statement on Thursday that the shutdown is in order to apply a corrosion protective lining to the inside of the pipeline.
"This work will only be done on the larger (1100 mm diameter) pipe. The smaller 750 mm diameter pipeline will continue supplying water to the Metro," the statement said.
"Consumers will not be affected as all the storage reservoirs will be filled before the shutdown."
"The work will continue throughout the weekend. A 24 hour period for the curing of the lining is necessary. It is anticipated that the pipeline will be re-commissioned on Tuesday (28 August) evening. This entails a gradual filling of the drained section of pipeline. The full water supply to the Metro will be restored by Wednesday 29 August."
Consumers are urged to conserve water during this period.
