PE's most wanted behind bars

Port Elizabeth police says one of the areas most wanted suspects appeared in court today following his arrest on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson, captain Andre' Beetge, says Luvuyo Plaatjies, alias Mabele, was apprehended by members of the Kwazakhele Visible Police Tracing Team after a high-speed in which his car crashed into a house.

"The police members made use of warning shots to apprehend the fleeing suspect, who was arrested before he could jump over a fence," Beetge said.

He faces at least nine charges that include murder, armed robbery, cash in transit heists and the illegal possession of fire-arms and ammunition.

Beetge says Plaatjies was remanded in custody for further investigation.

"The South African Police Service wish to send a strong message to criminals: "We are squeezing crime to zero, and we will prioritise serious and violent crime until all suspects are brought before court to face their sentence," he added.
