The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says parts of the Metro are experiencing water cuts due to the effects of the current drought and excessive consumption.
The Metro issued an urgent alert for affected households and businesses in Kwanobuhle, Chatty, Bloemendal and Booysen Park.
According to the alert, there is a quota restriction for water usage as issued by the National Department of Water and Sanitation, which has now been exceeded.
The City’s current consumption is at an average of 300 megalitres against the available quota of 268 megalitres.
This has resulted in a water deficit in the city.
The Metro will deploy water tankers to the affected areas.
The level of Nelson Mandela Bay’s main supply dams continues to drop and is now at an alarming 15.58% of total combined capacity.
