Nine suspects are expected to appear in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrates court on Thursday in connection with the murder of two family members of the anti-apartheid struggle stalwart Ahmed Kathrada.
His nephew, Yunus Kathrada and grand-nephew Moulana Ahmed were shot outside their house last week in an apparent attempted robbery.
Yunus died on the scene while his son died a short while later after being rushed to hospital.
The Ahmed Kathrada foundation welcomed the arrest and expressed the families' deep appreciation for the assistance they received from the police.
Spokesperson Neeshan Balton said they were saddened to learn that young people were amongst the suspects.
He said they hope the case will lead to a successful prosecution and that the quick action by police should be replicated across the country.
