Western Cape police have arrested nine suspects, including employees of the Oudtshoorn Traffic Department and the owner and employees of a local Driving School on charges of fraud and corruption.
Spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie says it is alleged that they were part of a syndicate whereby learner and or driver's licenses were issued to applicants in return for gratification.
He says police pounced on the Oudtshoorn driver license offices as well as the houses of the identified suspects on Friday.
A Mercedes 14 ton truck, a sedan, cell phones, computer equipment, and an undisclosed amount of cash were seized.
The suspects, aged between 34 and 61, are expected to make their first court appearance in the Oudtshoorn Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Pojie says they face various charges, including contravention of the Road Traffic Act, fraud, corruption, and money laundering.
