A German couple has had a narrow escape after they were caught in a rip current on the Wild Side of Robberg Nature Reserve along the Garden Route on Friday.
NSRI Plettenberg Bay station commander, Jaco Kruger says duty crews were activated following reports of a drowning in progress.
He says eyewitnesses reported two people being swept out to sea.
Kruger says a rescue craft arrived on the scene and rescued both of them.
The husband and wife, both aged 63, were assessed and required no further medical care.
