Port Elizabeth police are investigating after the body of a newborn baby with its umbilical cord still attached was discovered.
The grim discovery was made by a motorist in Salt Lake in the city's northern areas on Friday night.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, said the baby boy, estimated to be about two to three days old, was found in a clear plastic bag with a piece of plastic tied around his neck.
The child was declared dead on the scene.
No one has yet been arrested.
