Humansdorp police have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly being in the possession of suspected stolen diesel.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said that he was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning near the town’s fire department.
She said alert police spotted the man in his car and when he could not give a sound reason for being in the possession of eight 25 litre drums filled with diesel he was taken into custody.
Swart said there were several reported cases of diesel being stolen from the trucks at the Fire Department.
“The estimated value of the recovered diesel amounts to R3300. It was later established that the suspect was working at the Fire Department,” she said.
He is due to appear in court on Monday.
Swart says they will be looking into the possibility that the suspect may be linked to other cases.
