Port Elizabeth police are urgently trying to trace the mother of a newborn baby who was found in a plastic bag in Baakens Valley on Sunday.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said homeless people rummaging through the bushes in Lower Valley Road stumbled across the plastic bag which had been dumped near the Tramways building.
“The infant was found with the umbilical cord still attached. The race of the child is yet to be determined,” Naidu said.
An inquest docket is opened for further investigation.
Anyone who can assist in tracing the mother or may know of any person who may have been recently being pregnant and may be suspicious of such person is asked to contact SAPS Humewood on 041 5045019/20 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.
