East London police are investigating a case of child abandonment after new born baby was found wrapped in a plastic bag in a gutter in Quigney earlier today.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala, says the child was found by security guards this morning who alerted emergency services.
Werner Bester of Dynamic Emergency Medical Services, told Algoa FM News, that when paramedics arrived on the scene they found the little baby girl gasping for air.
She was rushed to Frere hospital and at lunch time, was reported to be in a stable condition.
Tragically, the baby died later this afternoon.

It is with deep regret that we have to notify the public that the little baby girl who was found in Signal Street this morning has passed away. May you Rest In Peace little one.
