A newborn baby boy was found dead, covered in a plastic bag at the Bika Campus of the Walter Sisulu University in Butterworth on Friday, Eastern Cape police said.
Spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said a security guard who was on duty saw a dog pulling a plastic bag.
“As the dog was pulling the plastic bag, the security guard saw tiny body of baby. He went to investigate and saw baby seemingly who was newly born. The incident was seen on Friday 28 July 2017 at about 11am,” Manatha said.
“Police were alerted and the body of the baby was taken to local state mortuary. A case of concealment of birth has been opened. No one has been arrested at the moment.”
Manatha urged people with information about the concealment of birth to report it to the Msobomvu Police Station.
