EC man dies in shack fire

Butterworth police have opened an inquest docket after 58-year-old man died in a shack fire.

Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says the incident occurred Thursday night in the Silver Town Informal Settlement in Butterworth.

He said the identify of the victim is being withheld until his next of kin are officially notified.

Manatha says an overturned candle is believed to have started the deadly fire.
