New twist in probe into EC woman's murder

The investigation into the murder of a young Eastern Cape woman has taken a new twist.

Police said Sunday that they arrested a 57-year-old female relative in connection with the abduction and murder of 25-year-old, Noluthabo Maliza.

“A 57 year-old female relative of the victim was arrested at Mahlubini Locality, Peddie in connection with the murder and kidnapping of the victim. She will appear in the Peddie Magistrates court on Tuesday,” said police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

Maliza’s body was found a day after her husband reported that his car and his wife had gone missing from the parking lot at the Peddie Magistrate’s Court last week.

In an earlier statement police said the man told them that he left his wife in her car with his cell phone and car keys. “When he returned to the place where he parked his car, both the car and his wife was nowhere to be seen.”

Police said the vehicle and Maliza’s boday were located at the Qamnyana Administration Area in the Tyefu Policing Area.

Last week police arrested three male suspects in connection with the abduction and murder.  They have appeared in court and are expected to apply for bail at the next hearing on 27 Jan.
