Port Elizabeth police are investigating the murder of a man shot dead in a gang-related shooting on Sunday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says 39-yer-old Shaun Rensburg collapsed and died after being shot in Bethelsdorp Extension 33.
“It is alleged that on Sunday, 22 January 2017 at about 06:00, Shaun Rensburg (39) exited the front door of a house in Waxberry Drive, Ext 33 Bethelsdorp. Two suspects approached him and started shooting at him,” Naidu said.
“The deceased collapsed and died in an alley next to the house. He is affiliated to
the Goodfellas gang,” she said.
Naidu said follow up investigations resulted in the arrest of a 23 year old suspect in Barberry Drive, Bethelsdorp.
“The suspect was arrested at his house. He will appear in court on Tuesday, 24 January 2017 on a charge of murder,” she said.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man will appear in court in Port Elizabeth on Monday for another gang-related shooting.
Naidu said the man was arrested on Friday by police members on patrol in Schauderville. She said the officers heard a shot and saw a man running with a gun in his hand.
Naidu said the man's intended victim arrived to report to the police that the suspect had allegedly fired a shot at him.
The suspect faces a charge of attempted murder.
Police also seized several firearms over the past weekend.
