New manager for Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

The Mandela Bay Development Agency has appointed Mpho Mokonyana as the new Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium Manager.

The 39-year-old Mokonyana has 19 years commercial sports experience, spanning sports development, event management, sponsorship recruitment and business development.

The acting Chief Executive Officer of the MBDA, Ashwin Daya, says the agency ran a countrywide search for a candidate.

He says the stadium already has a competent team overseeing operations, finance and facilities in place. “What we really needed, and also highlighted in the stadium commercial plan, is an individual that can build solid commercial partnerships and start to turn the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium into a strong income generator, lessoning the financial burden on the municipality and ultimately the rate payer” concluded Daya.

City Manager, Johan Mettler who formed part of the interview panel says “the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality welcomes Mpho with full confidence that the MBDA has found the best available candidate for the big task ahead. The Stadium is the City’s largest asset by value and we are determined to get it to sweat for the City and the people of Nelson Mandela Bay through efficient and skilful management. The MBDA, Mpho and his team can count on the City’s full support”.
