A man has been killed when a caterpillar heavy duty vehicle rode over him at the Arlington tip in Port Elizabeth.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, says it is believed that the man was rummaging among the heaps of refuse at the tip when the caterpillar reversed over him at about half past twelve on Thursday afternoon.
He landed under one of the heavy machine's tracks and died at the scene.
Labans says workers at the tip tried to warn the caterpillar driver, but due to the noise of its diesel engine, he couldn't hear anyone.
The deceased, whose name has not been released, was 54 years old.
