New Deputy Mayor to be appointed at next NMB council meeting

Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Athol Trollip says a new deputy mayor will be appointed at the next council meeting.

Trollip and the Municipality's coalition partners hosted a press conference at PE City Hall on Monday afternoon where he announced that the Patriotic Alliance was now part of the coalition government in the Metro.

He said the Patriotic Alliance's Marlon Daniels, who proposed the motion of no confidence in Deputy Mayor Mongameli  Bobani last week, would be the Mayoral Committee's new head of Public Health.

It is the position the UDM's Bobani was removed from recently by Trollip because of a number of irregularities.

UDM leader Bantu Holomisa has threatened legal action and said he will pull out of the coalition if Bobani is not reinstated by 4 pm, but Mayor Trollip says he's heard nothing from Holomisa or his legal representatives so far.

Trollip said the motion of no confidence against Bobani was related to him not cooperating with the coalition and that Bobani's conduct had prompted the Patriotic Alliance to ask him to join the coalition.
