Nersa hearings resume in PE

The National Energy Regulator reconvened its public hearings in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday on Eskom's application for a 16% a year price hike for the next three years.

An earlier session was abandoned when protesting trade union members disrupted proceedings forcing a postponement.

Sources told Algoa FM News that Nersa sent out notices late on Monday.

Nersa spokesperson, Charles Hlebela, said Agri East Cape, the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, Cosatu and Numsa had made submissions.

"Basically the message is the same, they don't agree with the 16% that Eskom has applied for and most of them are saying there should be a single digit increase that the energy regulator should look at giving Eskom."

The Nersa hearings move to Cape Town before the final decision is announced on the 28th of this month.
