Nelson Mandela Bay supply dams hit new low

NMB Facebook

The level of Nelson Mandela Bay’s main supply dams has hit a new low of 13.77% of total combined capacity.

According to the latest figures released by the Municipality on Monday, the largest supply dam, the Kouga, is now at just 5.04%.

The Metro warned last week that it would not be able to extract water from the Kouga should it reach a level of 3.1% and that if the big rains did not come soon, that reality would arrive at the beginning of July.

The Gamtoos Irrigation Board also cautioned previously that it would not be able to extract water from the Kouga for its irrigation farmers once it reaches a level of 3.3%.

The second-largest supply dam, the Impofu, is at 15.24% and the Churchill at 32.32%.

The Groendal Dam which serves the Kariega (Uitenhage) is at 30.49% and the smaller Loerie Dam, which is essentially a feeder dam, is at 45.6%.

Residents have been urged to continue to use water sparingly.
