The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says SMME contractors who have not been paid, will be paid by Friday and a 30 day payment schedule will be adhered to.
On Wednesday, SMME contractors from the construction industry held a protest outside City Hall and other government buildings in Govan Mbeki.
Mhleli Peter for the contractors - explained why they were protesting..
"We want work and decent work. As of now we are just given peanuts and we are saying we want to be in the mainstream economy of this Metro." says Peter
A meeting was later held between the SME forum and the Mayoral committee to dicuss the grievances.
According to Acting City Manager, Mzwake Clay, areas of concern included non involvement of SME's in mega-projects and allegations that construction projects were being outsourced to the Coega Development Corporation.
Clay added that regular meetings to keep SME's abreast of developments would go a long way in responding to their concerns within the policy framework.
