Residents in the Lapland area of Uitenhage took to the streets this morning burning tyres in protest at their eviction from the informal areas.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Basil Seekoei, says the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality issued the eviction notice yesterday, affecting around 300 people.
He told Algoa FM News a short while ago that police are monitoring the situation on the corners of Kamesh Road and Lovemore Street.
"This morning residents took to the streets burning tyres. Saps are monitoring the situation"
Seekoei warned local residents that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated
