The stringent level 3 lockdown regulations and the reintroduction of a curfew have resulted in residents of Zwide township in Port Elizabeth being victims of robberies and other crime.
This is according to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
The Municipality says Governments introduction of a curfew from 9 pm- 4 am has drastically decreased the movement of people in the area, but this has put those going to work during these time, in harm's way.
To combat this problem, the community has formed a neighboured patrol body.
Municipal spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki says this initiative will be formalised on Monday when the Metro hands over work tools to the group.
The group will receive masks, hand sanitizers, ID cards, reflector jackets and torches.
