A video of a Port Elizabeth man being arrested at a petrol station in Linton Grange on Saturday has gone viral on social media and evoked some strong emotions from residents.
In the video, Metro police officers are trying to put the motorist, who is resisting an arrest, at the back of their van.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said the allegations that the driver was arrested for not having his license are false as he was pulled over for reckless and negligent driving.
Metro police chief Yolande Faro said they did, however, issue the driver with a fine for not having his license and talking on the phone whilst driving.
She says during this time, the driver refused to give his cooperation and would not supply them with any of his personal details.
He, therefore, disobeyed a lawful instruction from an officer and subsequently resisted his arrest.
The Municipality also said that the video did not show the entire incident from the beginning to the end.
Faro said by driving recklessly and negligently, the suspect put other people's lives in danger on the road.
According to Municipality a case of crimen-injuria will also be opened against the driver who allegedly used the "K-word" during the incident.
This allegation, however, is not supported by the viral video.
